All hail the Google van
Woohoo! Google has finally added Street View for the Triangle. With our upcoming house hunting, it couldn't come at a better time. Now I can easily see if a neighborhood has been stripped of trees by the developer and mark it off our list.

From the images of my house it looks like it was done sometime in the fall, though I know that it might have taken months to do the entire region. I haven't had a chance to find anything interesting yet other than the fact that my lawn looks like crap in their pictures.

The van came through around mid-November.

It looks like our pumpkins still weren't carved for Halloween yet (though it is blurry and hard to see), but it was probably somewhere in that time frame for our neighborhood.

It's actually a fleet of Chevy Cobalts, and they were seen in July. Here are some interesting shots of Durham.

Wow, the camera setup is much smaller than I imagined. For some reason I expected this huge 360° block of cameras to be strapped to the top.

If they do it like they take images for the 360-degree house tours, they have a conical mirror pointed down, and the camera points up. You get a full 360-degree view in one shot, which you then turn into a 360-degree cylinder view with software.
